Ruger Lc 9 - Introduced at the 2011 SHOT Show, the LC9 is a comfortable, easy-to-carry, and easy-to-conceal single-stack handgun. Unique but sturdy for its size, it's great as a home defense or concealed carry weapon.
In the late 2000s, Sturm Ruger, one of the largest civilian firearms manufacturers in the United States, began entering the subcompact handgun market. The company's first subcompact, the Ruger Lightweight Compact Pistol, or Ruger LCP, was introduced in 2008. The LCP weighs 9.5 ounces unloaded and is designed as a concealed carry handgun for private citizens and as a backup pistol for the police. The LCP was followed in 2010 by the Ruger Lightweight Compact Revolver, or Ruger LCR. Weighing in at just 13.5 ounces, the five-shot revolver introduces several new features to the subcompact revolver market.

The Ruger LCP, while extremely light, has one major drawback: it is chambered for the .380 ACP cartridge. A Remington .380 ACP 88 grain jacketed hollow point round has a muzzle energy of 191 foot pounds in the barrel. It is also a subsonic phase, traveling at 990 feet per second. Although various types of ammunition, especially +P rounds, can reach 290 foot-pounds, nothing can propel a smaller caliber to supersonic velocities.

In response, Ruger developed the LC9s as a way to get the larger and faster nine-millimeter Luger round into the LC platform. Nine millimeter rounds typically produce muzzle energy in the 300 foot-pound range, twice the energy of a .380 ACP round. +P Nine millimeter bullets can push muzzle energy past 400 foot-pounds. Supersonic bullets were originally available at nine millimeters, although most types remained in the long subsonic range.
One of the major engineering trade-offs with the LCP is the use of the .380 ACP round to get the pistol's overall weight under a pound. However, the move to a nine-millimeter caliber means that the new LC9s must be larger and heavier to handle the larger round. The LC9s also include several new features, including a series of safeties designed to prevent accidental discharge of the weapon.
The LC9s are 4.5 inches tall and 6 inches tall. It features a 3.12 inch alloy steel barrel. It weighs 17.2 ounces unloaded and is equipped with a seven-round magazine. The LC9 is one of the narrowest semi-automatic handguns out there, measuring just 9/10ths of an inch across. In comparison, the Glock 43 single stack handgun is 1.06 inches wide. Narrow LC9s help the weapon stay hidden on the human body and avoid "printing" problems where the weapon is profiled under a shirt or similar clothing.
Like the LCP, the LC9s is a polymer frame, striker fired pistol with a steel alloy slide. This allowed Ruger to save weight on the pistol's parts while incorporating steel in stress areas. The result is a lighter pistol than an all-steel gun. With an extra round in the chamber, ready to fire, the LC9s is an eight-shot pistol.

The LC9s introduce many safety features to Ruger's subcompact pistols. The pistol has an integrated trigger safety which ensures that the gun only fires when the safety located at the end of the trigger engages. The gun also has a manual safety that prevents firing unless disengaged. A magazine disconnect safety means that the pistol will not fire unless a magazine is inserted into the gun. Finally, a loaded chamber indicator allows the user to tell at a glance if there is a round in the chamber and if the pistol is ready to fire.
The Ruger LC9s is a lightweight, highly concealable nine-millimeter pistol that works not only as a home defense gun, but also as a concealed carry or backup weapon. Larger and more powerful than its predecessor, the LCP, the LC9s is a great choice for those looking for power in a compact package.

In 2009, he founded Japan Security Watch, a defense and security blog. The Ruger LC9 is a compact and slim pistol that is perfect for concealment and backup gun use. Playing off the very popular LCP pistol, Ruger chambered this pistol in the powerful 9mm cartridge.
The LC9 is a double-action-only (DAO) pistol that uses the hammer, not the striker. The pull is smooth but not heavy.

This ultra slim pocket gun is only 0.9 inches wide. The LC9 weighs only 17.1 ounces, but has a 3.12” barrel, 7+1 capacity and true three-dot sights.
The LC9 frame is made of high-performance, glass-filled nylon, and the slide and barrel are steel. The frame is black and the slide is blue.
Feels great in the hand with good balance
I bought mine 8 months ago and it works great for concealed carry. I bought it used and got a good deal. One hell of a shooter!!!

I got mine from a disgruntled buyer for $175.00 because of the trigger pull (long) Ruger makes great stuff and you can pay more if you want but it vibrates every time I pull the trigger. (Posted 5/4/15)
This is a very nice weapon to carry and shoot, but modifications to the hammer and trigger pull bar are only possible when modified with a Galloway Precision trigger. This cuts the length of the trigger pull in half and reduces the trigger pull by a pound or so. After the mod my shot group went from 12+ inches to under 6 inches. Recommend the Williams Fire site to quickly get a quick photo. (Posted 8/28/13)
I started carrying a Taurus PT 745 45 cal pistol in my front pocket for two years using Uncle Mike's pocket holster (great pistol but a bit big and heavy for everyday carry). I bought an LC-9 and it is the best to carry. It is light, thin and not long. I made a replica of Uncle Mike's Pocket Holster from the Minila folder. Cut to the same shape, staple and tape together (it's thinner than half an inch and best- it won't take long, but you can make a new one in 5 minutes. I brought it with a Buffalo Bore 124 gr +p ammo. 1225 fps, 413 fp or Speer Gold dot 124 gr+p 1220 fps, 410 fp. I wish I had this pistol when I was flying PAN AM as a sky marshal in the 70's on world routes from JFK.( Posted 8/19/ 13)
The owner prefers the trigger on my LC9 to the current Kel Tech. He has a better shot group at longer distances with the LC9.

I put on the Thunder Wear holster and the client was shocked when I drew the Ruger and shot it, very nice low profile. We were in a concealed carry class for over 5 hours and I never realized I had a gun in my hand.
In my last few classes, the LC9 performed well, there were no jams, and most students gave good hits out to 20+ yards on the B27 target. Good release, not sticky, and the field strip is easy to clean. Eat everything I put in it.
Too many light strikes, the front sight fell off and Ruger replaced the entire slide for me. What do you expect for 349.00 for an LC9 with Lasermax. (Posted 1/20/13)
The weapon is small and light enough that even my teenage girls can handle it without much kickback. (Posted 1/17/13)
Ruger Replaces Lc9 S Pistol With Max 9– Bravo Concealment
The Ruger LC9 was announced today. The LC9 is a single-stack, 9mm compact pistol designed for concealed carry. The capacity is 7 + 1 and is rated to handle LC9 + P bullets.
The LC9 has rounded corners, also known as the "melting" treatment, which reduces the chance of the pistol catching on clothing when concealed and drawn.
Although the LC9 follows the naming conventions of the LCP, unlike the .380 pistol, the LC9 has a very useful three-dot sight. The sights are built into the slide, which means they are drift adjustable and you can change them to anything you want.
The LC9 has a manual safety, which the SR9 has, but the LCP does not. The LC9 also has a loaded chamber indicator.

The LC9 is not California approved, but appears to have all the features required for approval. Once it's accepted in California, I expect members of that state to buy the LC9 as well. Ruger Firearms introduces the 9mm LC9S pocket pistol – a striker-fired variant of the previous LC9 model and a fun new kid on the pocket block. Guns for covert defense!
Ruger's LC9S is another interesting contender in the growing market of subcompact pistols for concealed carry.
